Hi SWYSC Members,
We need soccer referees and that means you! Games don’t happen without referees and this is a great way to support soccer on South Whidbey and get paid for doing it!
Referees get paid $32.25 per match for a one-hour U10 match (center ref) and between $20 and $50 for other games, depending on role and age group of the game! Referees need to be certified by the state referee association, so a training clinic is required prior to working games. This is a good thing for players and parents, as you have a chance to learn the rules! It will make you a better player and more understanding of how referees manage games!
We need youth (ages 13 on up) and adult referees for the upcoming fall season. Here are some details:
- The website to sign up for clinics is here--> http://www.wareferees.org/AvailableClinics.aspx
- In the dropdown, you would select "Become a referee: Never been a USSF referee before” and review the options.
- You can sign up for any clinic that is listed there. There should be an info and registration link there.
- As mentioned above, online pre-work is required (probably 5 or 6 hours) before attending the clinic, so take that into account! This is where you will learn the rules.
- There is a $50 sign on bonus (to be paid after five games)
- There is a fee associated with getting certified. However, you will be reimbursed for the cost of it via the SWYSC Board after working five games as either a center or assistant referee!
- A uniform will also be required, but there are very cheap options out there and we may be able to find used equipment for you. Either way, we can help with this step.
- Once you are certified and have your equipment, the Club will post games on a weekly basis and you can select the games you would like to work.
- SWYSC cuts paychecks from our volunteer treasurer quarterly.
Let me know if you have any other questions or want more info!
Thx, Bob
