Practice Resources

Coaching Resource Page

Here are some web sites that I have looked at both recently and during my time coaching high school.  Some of these have free content and some offer subscription options which make available more resources.

US Youth Soccer https://www.usyouthsoccer.org/lesson-plans/

If you did the any on-line Development sessions form U.S Soccer, you are probably already familiar with this site.  The nice thing is they have training session plans, by age group, already written up for different topics complete with coaching points.

Soccer Coach Weekly https://www.soccercoachweekly.net/

This place has a ton of stuff from featured articles to drills and activities.  Some of it is free and some requires a subscription ($9-$11 per month depending on the length of subscription). Drills are organized by topic, position and age.  Like many sites, having all of this at your fingertips can help in coming up with new practice plan ideas.  They also have something called the Coaching Classroom which allows you to coach a concept remotely or else deliver the lesson in person.  They provide all the content for the lesson.  This is included with your subscription.

Soccer Drive https://www.soccerdrive.com/

This site is easy to navigate and has plenty of valuable information.  Some of the content is free and some requires a subscription ($9/month or $49/yr).  Along with age level practice plans it has drills, skill videos, a free drill drawing tool as well as coaching education programs.  As I said, not all the content is free but I found enough to keep me going for a while.  I have just started going through this site, but I like it.

On-Line Soccer Academy  https://www.onlinesocceracademy.com/

This site is different from the others as you will notice right away.  The videos look like they were done in the backyard or a nearby park, but the information and organization are great.  They have a free weekly newsletter they send out with different activities.  Subscriptions are free, mostly individual or 2 person demonstrations for each topic, the videos are clearly organized and have accompanying text and drill explanations.  This is a great site for motivated players to look for things they can do to improve on their own or with a friend, or for coaching ideas around a particular skill.  I have recommended it to many players.

National Federation of High Schools  https://nfhslearn.com

If you are coaching High School age kids then this web site can be very useful both to you as a coach and also for your players.  They have a huge variety of on-line classes many of which are free and go beyond just soccer coaching.

NFHS offers courses for coaches, parents, administrators and officials.  Coaches can have a big influence on kids so I encourage you to check out some of the student courses and communicate to your players about this resource.  We will communicate to all the parents about courses that are appropriate for them.

In Practice:  When I was coaching high school, I required any player interested in being considered for Captain to complete the NFHS Captains Course.   https://nfhslearn.com/courses/captains-course
